A North Korean cargo ship has run aground in the Gulf of Mexico after sailing from Havana, Cuba, according to reports.
The 6,700-tonne freighter “Mu Du Bong” ran aground on a reef on Monday about 8 miles northeast of the port of Tuxpan in Mexico, said Ricardo Maza, head of emergency services in the Veracruz state.
“This ship was going to arrive at the port to load fertilizers, it was empty, and instead of following the established route, it … ran aground,” said Maza.
As of Tuesday, the Mu Du Bong was still aground and it was unclear just how long it would take to refloat the ship.
