Not sure why you would launch a ship in the dark, unless of course you’re in Norway and only have 6 hours of daylight over the course of the entire day.

Such was the situation in Ulsteinvik last night at Kleven Verft’ shipyard. The shipyard launched the REM Arctic, a VS 485 MkIII Arctic-design PSV on order for REM Offshore.

The Rem Arctic has been designed and will be powered by Wärtsilä and is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2015.

Vessel Particulars:

  • Design: VS 485 mk III Arctic PSV
  • Class: DNV ICE 1B
  • Length over all: 87.22 m
  • Breadth moulded: 20.0 m
  • Depth: 8.60 m
  • Deadweight: 5000 tonnes
  • Main Engines: 4x 9-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 in-line engines (diesel electric)
