Hawaii Superferry is sending its only ship back to Alabama where the vessel was built.
The high-speed interisland ferry company suspended service and laid off more than 200 employees earlier this month after a state Supreme Court ruling regarding state law.
Hawaii Superferry said in a statement its Alakai ship would leave Saturday for a three-week trip to Mobile, Ala. via the Panama Canal.
The company says it’s sending the ship back to position it for future use.
