Danish newspaper Borsen has reported today that confidential sources reveal Maersk’s plans to build up to 10 long-haul to medium range product tankers.
In an emailed statement to us this morning, Maersk Tankers spokesperson Klara Halkjaer did not confirm the rumor, but did note that, “Maersk Tankers is currently looking into newbuildings in order to maintain an acceptable average age of the product fleet.”
Maersk currently has a fleet of 32 MR tankers and 17 LR2-sized vessels with an average age of 11 years and 8 years respectively.
