d’Amico International Shipping S.A. (Borsa Italiana: DIS), announced today that it has exercised its option to purchase two additional 50,000 DWT “Eco”-product/chemical tankers from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. The total purchase price for these tankers is less than USD $30 million according to a statement to investors today by d’Amico.
The vessels are expected to be delivered in the latter half of 2015 and are the latest IMO II MR design with fuel efficiency savings of 6 – 7 t/day compared to the average consumption of the world existing MR fleet.
As of today, d’Amico’s fleet includes a total of 40.5 double-hull Medium Range (MR) and Handysize product tankers, with an average age of about 6.2 years. Their current newbuilding program now consists of 6 MR and 2 Handysize vessels, at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd.
