Fincantieri and Crystal have recently announced a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the construction of two high-end cruise ships, with the potential for a third. The agreement, which ranges in value between €1 billion and €2 billion, is subject to financing and other terms.
The new cruise ships will have a gross tonnage of 61,800 tons and will accommodate about 690 passengers. The first of these state-of-the-art vessels is expected to be delivered in spring 2028, with details about the second ship to be announced later.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, said the agreement shows the strong recovery of the cruise sector and “reaffirms Fincantieri’s leadership” in the cruise ship construction sector.
Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Executive Chairman of A&K Travel Group, parent company to Crystal, hailed the order as a milestone in the 40-year productive collaboration between Fincantieri and his family. “Our aim is to continue setting a new standard in cruising, offering our guests an unmatched level of service and sophistication,” he said.
A&K Travel Group acquired the American luxury cruise brand “Crystal Cruises” along with the vessels Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony following the collapse of Crystal’s former parent, Genting Hong Kong, in 2022. Both ships were refurbished in 2023.
