In the United States, we have a problem that’s so BIG and obvious that even Elon Musk can’t see it.
Our highways are broken, our streets are clogged with traffic, and we are choking on truck emissions. The reason? The highway system was built to transport giant shipping containers but that system is broken. The solution is to miniaturize the container and start using the nation’s Marine Highway system but, unfortunately, the President’s newly released $2 Trillion infrastructure plan, does not invest in new ideas. Instead, it just throws money at a broken maritime system focused on servicing mega-containerships.
Compounding the problem is the fact that Biden has not begun the nomination process for the critically important post of US Maritime Administrator.
Throwing trillions of dollars at our bridges and highways without fixing the underlying problem, the massive weight of shipping containers, will be a disaster for our economy and environment.
