Fred Fry is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Marine Transportation and holds an MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics (now Aalto University). He has spent his entire career in the maritime industry, working at sea and ashore in both the United States and Europe. At gCaptain, Fred created the Maritime Monday series — a long-running weekly roundup of global maritime news that became one of the site's signature features. His analysis of the Costa Concordia disaster and the Jones Act's role in oil spill response demonstrated detailed operational knowledge rarely found outside the licensed officer community. He also published the independent blog Fred Fry International, covering maritime security and policy.
