The Harsh Reality of US Coast Guard Migrant Policy
by John Konrad (gCaptain) When merchant and cruise ships rescue migrants at sea, they offer more than just a lifeline from the perilous waters; they provide critical sustenance and care....
I seem to remember a nautical saying, something about leaving each foot on a different ship as they pull apart. Or maybe this is just nautical 101 at its most basic. Anyway, it seems the crew of a Norwegian cruise ship never learned this important lesson. YouTube tells us:
A 73-year-old grandmother is in intensive care after being dropped overboard by paramedics who were trying to carry her off a cruise ship.
Janet Richardson spent several minutes in the icy waters off Norway before she was rescued. A medical team had been trying to transfer her on a stretcher, when the two boats moved apart and she fell into the North Sea. She is now being treated in a hospital back in the UK.
