U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) delivered a heartfelt speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate on Thursday addressing the capsizing of the SEACOR Power last week.
Cassidy’s speech comes as seven of the SEACOR Power’s crew members remain missing after divers recovered a sixth deceased victim from inside the vessel on Tuesday after the Coast Guard suspended its search Monday at dusk.
The SEACOR Power capsized during a severe squall shortly after departing Port Fourchon on Tuesday, April 13, with 19 crew on board. Six crew members were recovered safely.
SEACOR Power’s operator SEACOR Marine offered the following statement on its website:
“Our hearts and prayers are with our crew members, partners and the loved ones of those who were lost. We thank the U.S. Coast Guard, good Samaritan vessels, local authorities and the brave individuals who supported the search and rescue efforts, including the rescue of six crew members. Our focus is on doing all we can to recover those missing in this incident and continuing to support their families with some of the most experienced salvors and divers in the world, who will not stop until they thoroughly search the entire vessel.”
The salvage is now being led by Donjon Marine with divers from Maryland-based Phoenix International.
