VARD has announced it has secured new contract for the design and construction of a luxury expedition cruise vessel for German cruise company Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
VARD already constructing two Polar-class expedition cruise ships under construction for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. Like those already under construction, the third ship will specially-designed for cruises in polar regions in the Arctic and Antarctica, as well as operations in warm water destinations such as the Amazon.
The new expedition cruise ship will be approximately 16,000 gross tons, about 139 meters long and 22 meters wide.
Delivery is scheduled from Vard Langsten in Norway in 2Q 2021. The hull will be built by VARD in Romania.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is a subsidiary of Germany’s TUI Group, one of the world’s largest hotel and cruise tourism companies.

Hapag-Lloyd placed the order for the first two expedition cruise ships back in 2016. Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2019.
