A crew member of a Singapore-registered tanker has died after falling overboard in rough weather off Boston Harbor on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. when a crew member of the MTM Dublin apparently fell into the water while lowering the ship’s ladder to embark a Boston Harbor pilot.

A nearby fishing vessel responded to a distress call and successfully rescued the victim from the water, despite the dark and challenging conditions. Crew members performed CPR as they transported the victim to shore to awaiting personnel who transported them to the hospital.

The district attorney’s office announced Wednesday that the victim had died.

AIS data shows the ship moored at a terminal in Quincy, MA, since Wednesday.
