Statoil and Transocean pull out of Egypt

The latest word from gCaptain sources is that all the expats from Statoil and Transocean’s offices in Egypt have left, or are in the process of leaving the country as quickly as possible.

The Discoverer Americas, a Transocean-owned 6th generation drillship, has been drilling off the Egyptian coast for the past few months, but with the evacuation of all shoreside support, and disintegration of their supply chain, their next course of action will be to plug and abandon (P&A) the well and head somewhere else.

This is clearly frustrating news for Norwegian oil giant Statoil considering they had just recently funded the transatlantic relocation of the Americas from the Gulf of Mexico this summer due to the Horizon disaster.
