This could be the most impressive and creative sports venue we’ve seen.
Today, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson will host the Michigan State Spartans and University of North Carolina Tar Heels in the inaugural Quicken Loans Carrier Classic basketball game to be played on the Carl Vinson’s flight deck while in San Diego.
An estimated 7,000 spectators will attend the event including President Barack Obama. The idea was conceived to celebrate Veterans Day and salute active-duty military personnel.
“I think it’s a great way to say ‘thank you’ to all men and women in the service,” said Capt. Bruce H. Lindsey, commanding officer of Carl Vinson.
Tip off is at 7:00 PM EST and can be seen on ESPN.
