Seattle-based luxury cruise line Seabourn has signed a Letter of Intent for the construction of two ultra-luxury expedition cruise ships.

The newbuilds will be constructed by a partnership between Italian shipbuilder T. Mariotti and Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands.

Delivery is planned for June 2021 and May 2022, respectively.

Seabourn says the 170 meter, 23,000 gross ton vessels will add new capacity for the company in Antarctica, the Arctic, and other exotic destinations around the world.

Each vessel will meetPolar Class 6 ice class standards allowing for summer and fall operations in medium first-year ice conditions. Each ship will feature 132 oceanfront suites and capacity for up to 264 guests.

Seabourn is a brand of Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise travel company.

The partnership between T. Mariotti and Damen will operate under a new common brand, MARIOTTI DAMEN Cruise.

Damen Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing Cruise Andrea Trevisan said, “We are very honored by this collaboration. The combination of T. Mariotti luxury cruise shipbuilding’s experience of long standing with the high-class facilities of Damen Shipyards Group represents a unique synergy in the cruise industry. Our partnership brings together two proud family businesses, both of which enjoy a reputation for shipbuilding excellence.”
