The footage was filmed last week as powerboat racer Stuart Hayim was attempting to set a speed record around Long Island in his 52-foot MTI catamaran.
According to reports, the accident occurred about 30 minutes into the record-setting attempt when clear skies gave way to dense fog, reducing visibility to just 50 to 100 feet. Amazingly, Hayim saw the buoy coming and had just enough time to avoid a direct hit while doing 148 miles per hour.
