Nor-Shipping, one of the leading maritime industry trade conferences, has postponed plans for its upcoming exhibition and event program next month amid the spread of the new Omicron variant.

Nor-Shipping is typically held every other year and attracts some 900 exhibitors and 50,000 participants. With the last event taking place in 2019, plans for a full Summer 2021 Nor-Shipping program were rescheduled with high hopes for a successful conference to take place January 10-13, 2022. But in the face of increasing coronavirus infection rates and the spread of the omicron variant, event organizers are once again forced to postpone the event. A follow-up announcement regarding the path forward is expected by the end of the week.

Director Sidsel Norvik says the time has come to make “a responsible decision” despite Norway’s national restrictions allowing for large-scale exhibitions.

“In a very fluid pandemic situation, with rapidly rising infection rates here in Norway and elsewhere, we believe the time has come to postpone our January programme and try and create some clarity for our exhibitors and participants,” said Norvik.

“With that in mind, we will be spending the coming days carefully assessing the situation and planning the best route forwards,” added Norvik. “Our job is to serve and support this great business community, and we’re committed to doing so in a safe, responsible and considered manner. We’d like to ask everyone for their patience at present, and will return with a final decision on the next Nor-Shipping this week. Thank you all for your continued understanding and support.”
