Norwegian offshore shipowner Havila Shipping has agreed to sell its platform supply vessel Havila Princess to fish farmer Bakkafrost for use in the aquafarming industry.

Faroe Islands-based Bakkafrost plans to convert the offshore services vessel for a range of services within its offshore fish farming business.

The Havila Princess was built in 2005, is equipped with Dynamic Positioning, and has an open deck of 704 square meters.

“The intention is equipping the vessel with a system for delousing of salmon using warm seawater,” Bakkafrost said in a statement announcing its purchase. “With this investment, Bakkafrost’s capacity for delousing of salmon without the use of medical treatment will increase considerably.”

The company expects to have the vessel, which will be renamed Martin, ready for service towards the beginning of 2017.

Havila Shipping says the sale represents no loss and will have limited effect on the company result. The sale price was not disclosed.
