The new 90-ton Rachael Allen tugboat features the lowest emission engines and most advanced safety features in the world.
Press Release – Foss Maritime delivered the Rachael Allen, the fourth of four new ASD-90 tugs built at Nichols Brothers Boat Builders in Freeland, Wash. Her three sisters: the Jamie Ann was completed in March 2020, the Sarah Avrick was delivered to sister company, AmNav Maritime in October, 2020 and Leisa Florence delivered in January, now operating in Southern California. The Rachael Allen arrived in the San Francisco Bay where she will serve our customers in California.
Like the Jamie Ann, Sarah Avrick and Leisa Florence, the Rachael Allen features two MTU Tier 4 engines producing 6866 horsepower which meet the EPA’s highest standards, reducing particulate and nitrogen oxide emissions to near zero through an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system, but also is powerful enough to escort the largest tankers and container ships calling California ports where she will serve.
“The addition of the Rachael Allen is the fourth vessel in our newbuild program. This large class of tug will meet the current and future needs of the largest vessels of our Foss customers calling on California ports,” said Will Roberts President of Foss Maritime. “The four ASD-90 tugs were built to satisfy the requirements we believe will soon be required of the rest of the country and the world.” The vessel’s upgraded safety features are equally impressive and focus on crew safety on deck, wheelhouse visibility, winch operations and sound abatement in the engine room and staterooms.
