At least five were killed after a fire broke out aboard a car and passenger in the Java Sea on Friday, Indonesian authorities confirmed over the weekend.
The fire reportedly started in the vehicle deck of the Indonesian ferry Mutiara Sentosa 1 and quickly spread to other parts of the vessel, prompting the captain to give the order to abandon ship.
The Indonesian Search And Rescue Agency said Saturday that 192 people were rescued with the help of nearby vessels and search and rescue assets.
The fire started Friday as the ferry was approximately 2 miles Masalembo Island in the Java Sea.
It was unclear exactly how many people, if any, remained missing as the true number of persons on board did not match the ships manifest.
