The Fire Department of New York is battling a 7-alarm fire today at a warehouse in Brooklyn utilizing their fire boat Bravest, Fire Fighter II and an army of 275 firefighters. The following images via the FDNY were posted on their Twitter feed
Utilizing FLIR, a brand name coined from the words “Forward Looking Infrared,” the crew of the Bravest is able to determine the hot spots inside the burning warehouse.
The 64-foot Bravest was built by Safe Boats International in 2011 and features three 1,000 horsepower Caterpillar C-18 diesel engines which powers Hamilton 403 waterjets and support onboard fire pumps which can spew out 6,000 gallons per minute on to a fire.
This afternoon, FDNY’s Fire Fighter II joined the effort as the fire escalated from a 4-alarm to a 7-alarm fire amid freezing temperatures and high winds.
Fire Fighter II is a Robert Allan Ltd-designed RAnger 4200-class fireboat powered by four, 2000 horsepower MTU engines. She is the largest fireboat in the United States and has the ability to pour up to 50,000 gallons per minute on a fire.
