During SMM Hamburg last week, Drydocks World, the largest shipyard in the Middle East, and ABB turbochargers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers in the Drydocks World facility in Dubai.
The signing ceremony was held at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of H.E Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirate, Germany and senior officials of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the officials of the two companies and delegates. The service agreement will be signed in October 2012.
“We welcome this agreement as it directly supports Dubai’s maritime sector while enhancing the position of Dubai as a transshipment hub in the region. It goes out to showcase the competitive advantages and maritime facilities offered by the emirate as this also caters to Dubai Chamber’s strategic objective of creating a favourable business environment while promoting Dubai as an international business hub,” said Al Shirawi.
“Given the strategic importance of the Drydocks World and Dubai to our mutual customers, this initiative provides onsite accessibility to key equipment required for the overhaul of Turbochargers thus allowing for quick turnaround times and onsite technical support round the clock,” said John Fyfe, Area Manager Middle East & North East Africa.
