CMA CGM Group this week inaugurated the CMA CGM Bougainville, now the largest ship sailing under the French flag.

The inauguration took place Tuesday, October 6th by French President François Hollande in Le Havre, France.

The CMA CGM Bougainville is deployed on the CMA CGM’s French Asia Line (FAL) between Europe and Asia. The vessel is the part of 6 new containerships with a capacity to carry 18,000 TEU that will enter the CMA CGM fleet in 2015, and second vessel in the series to sail under the French flag.

TheCMA CGM Bougainville was constructed at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and measure 398 meters long by 54 meters wide.

The ship is the also first in the world to be outfitted with Traxens technology, providing real-time container monitoring by “transforming containers into smart connected objects.”
