
Cargo Ship Sinks in China, 2 Killed and 7 Missing
To children were killed and seven others missing Wednesday after a cargo ship sank while berthed at a port in China’s Jiangsu province.
According to maritime authorities in China, the cargo ship, loaded with approximately 10,000 tonnes of iron ore, capsized and sank at 2:25am while docked at the Port of Zhenjiang. All 24 people on board, including at least two children, were thrown into the water. Seventeen were eventually rescued, but the latest word is that 7 are still missing and at least two children have died.
No word on what caused the ship to capsize.
Port of Zhenjiang sits on the southern bank of the Yangtze River where it meets the Grand Canal.
