Samsung Heavy Industries has received a contract to build two additional deepwater drillships for Seadrill worth US$1.08 billion. Seadrill has already received 3 drillships of the same class from SHI, including the ‘West Polaris’ (pictured above), delivered in 2008. The contract also includes options for two additional ships.

Since 2000, Samsung Heavy Industries has received 31 of the 51 drillships ordered globally, including 10 so far this year.
The vessels are expected to be delivered by September 2013.
