A large Maersk containership was involved in a collision with a much smaller freighter in the Western Scheldt in in southwestern Netherlands on Tuesday, causing damage to both vessels.
The 10,000 TEU Maersk Genoa had just departed Antwerp bound for Bremerhaven when it collided with the Dan Fighter at about 9:20 a.m. UTC on Tuesday. An AIS animation of the collision is below:
Reports say both vessels were damaged in the incident. The Maersk Genoa reportedly suffered a crack on its stern above the waterline. There have been no reports of pollution, injuries, or lost containers.
The Maersk Genoa was delivered to Seaspan Corporation in 2016 and began its charter with Maersk in September. The vessel is flagged in Hong Kong.
The Dan Fighter is flagged in Denmark and is 852 gross tonnes.
Both vessels have since been allowed to return to service.
