Press Release – Marine IoT developer Scandinavian Reach Technologies (ScanReach) of Norway is now offering its industry-leading wireless connectivity technology to customers in North America through an agreement with Canadian based Seacoast Marine Electronics (SME), the two companies announced today.
The agreement will see SME direct sales and marketing in North America for the ScanReach Connect Personnel On-Board (POB) wireless platform, which provides on-board connected safety via real-time locating and emergency reporting for crews working in high-steel environments aboard vessels and off-shore installations.
“This is an exciting opportunity to enter a market where shipowners and managers can place a high value on crew safety by putting seafarers lives first,” said Arild Sæle, ScanReach’s Founder and Chief Commercial Officer. “Our (POB) technology is the best in the world at providing on-board or remote response teams with an immediate overview and position of all personnel, especially in emergency situations when every minute counts. It’s a game changer for marine.”
“Beyond the obvious safety and connectivity value, the appeal of the system to shipowners is its ease of installation — there is no cabling — and its overall affordability,” said Henk van Heuveln, owner of SME. “It takes less than a day to have it up and running on a vessel, and crews are outfitted with simple wristband wearables. When you consider that such advanced technology can be had so easily and at the cost of a cup of coffee per crew member per day, the decision on investing in it is not a difficult one to make.”
ScanReach is also expanding its wireless platform to gather and share live data from on-board equipment and systems to help improve environmental performance and increase vessel efficiency. This full on-board connectivity will be facilitated for customers who have the Connect POB system installed.
“The future of marine is IoT” explained Saele. “Our mission is to ensure customers are ready for it by being connected with ScanReach wireless technology.”
