Offshore drilling contractor Transocean says its ultra-deepwater semi-submersible GSF Development Driller 1 has been awarded an 11-well contract offshore Australia for Chevron.

The contract is expected to commence in the first half of 2019 and will span approximately 955 days.

Transocean said the firm contract backlog amounts to approximately $158 million excluding integrated services, amounting to a day rate of approximately $165,400 per day. The contract includes four one-well options.

GSF Development Driller 1 is currently under six-month contract with Quadrant Energy ending in September 2018, according to Transocean’s latest Fleet Statu report. In November, it will commence a 1-well, two-month contract with PTTEP, also in Australia.

Transocean owns or has partial ownership interests in, and operates a fleet of 43 mobile offshore drilling units consisting of 24 ultra-deepwater floaters, 12 harsh environment floaters, two deepwater floaters and five midwater floaters. It is also constructing two ultra-deepwater drillships and one harsh environment semisubmersible in which the company has a one-third interest.
