India’s Oil Demand Drives CMB Tech Fleet Diversification

Wallenius and Swedish Orient Line have teamed up to launch a new shipping company focussing on the eco-friendly transport of forestry products and other goods in the Baltic Sea region for Finnish and Swedish industrial customers.
The new company, called WALLENIUS SOL, kicked off operations 21 April 2019 from its main office in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The company will initially operate five vessels with up to an additional four new LNG-powered vessels planned for 2021. The specially designed vessels will be built to Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A Super to provide year-round service, even in the the Gulf of Bothnia.
WALLENIUS SOL will operate from five ports in Baltic Sea region, including Gulf of Bothnia, with regular calls also to the UK, Antwerp and Zeebrugge. The company said it has already signed long-term agreements are Stora Enso and Metsä Board.
”Together we can offer a strong mix of experience and competence, which can support a growing forest industry,” says Ragnar Johansson, Managing Director WALLENIUS SOL. ”Wallenius has experience from industrial shipping, ship owning, ship building and ship management. SOL brings the competence of logistics from forest industry and other types of cargo in this geographical area.”
