China Is Days Late in Releasing Trade Data as US Shipping Slumps
China is yet to announce regular statistics on trade flows for last week, delaying a closely watched data set as firms cut back on exports to the US.
UK-based tanker company Stolt-Nielsen Limited (Oslo Børs: SNI) has announced a major development in its fleet expansion plans with an order for six stainless steel parcel tankers.
The 38,000 dwt tankers were ordered by the company’s subsidiary, Stolt Tankers B.V., at Wuhu Shipyard in China with deliveries between 2026 and 2028. The order includes options for an additional six newbuildings.
The state-of-the-art tankers have been designed to prioritize fuel efficiency, with modern engine design, hull optimization, energy-saving devices, and shore power connection. Notably, the ships are also adaptable for future conversion to battery and methanol propulsion.
The new tankers will feature 30 stainless steel cargo tank segregations for cargo flexibility.
“Following our well-timed acquisitions of 10 secondhand ships since 2021, now is the right time to invest in newbuildings,” said Udo Lange, Chief Executive Officer, Stolt-Nielsen Limited. “This deal positions Stolt Tankers for the future by improving flexibility and maintaining our fleet size as we retire older ships from our network between 2026 and 2030.”
Lange further emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and customer support:
“By adding modern and fuel-efficient ships to our fleet, we aim to improve our service offerings and contribute to our customers’ sustainability goals. These new vessels will not only help Stolt Tankers in achieving its ambitious target of reducing carbon intensity by 50% by 2030 but will also assist customers in reducing their Scope 3 emissions,” he said.
