Photographer Ken McQuillan sent us the following images of the 635-foot bulk carrier Sam Laud operating from Belle Isle to Zug Island on the Detroit River on Wednesday.

In a report by the Windsor Star this week, Lieutenant Chad Yeaman from U.S. Coast Guard sector Detroit comments, “We are having basically our worst ice season in probably decades.” Yeaman helps oversee icebreaking operations with the U.S. Coast Guard in Detroit.

Images shot from Redbird One, the Detroit media news chopper.
