One person has died and another was seriously injured overnight in an explosion in the boiler room of a ship at the port of Felixstowe.
Suffolk Police Department said it was called to the Port of Felixstowe at 11:45 p.m. Thursday after reports of an incident on a ship that was docking.
The Port of Felixstowe said via Twitter that an explosion occurred in the boiler room of the Japanese-flagged Manhattan Bridge.
One person has died and another in currently in the hospital receiving treatment.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and there will be a joint investigation between the Police and the Maritime and Coastguard agency,” the Suffolk Police said in a statement.
AIS shows the ship still in Felixstowe as of Friday afternoon. The ship’s next destination is Hamburg, Germany.
The M/V Manhattan Bridge is operated by K-Line. The ship was built in 2015, is 366 meters in length and can carry up to 14,000 TEU.
