Jensen Maritime has been selected to design two new escort/rescue tugboats for McAllister Towing.
The boats, to be named Brian A. McAllister and the Rosemary McAllister, will be built at Horizon Shipbuilding in Bayou LaBatre, Alabama.
Jensen Maritime will be responsible for providing detailed design services for the 12-knot, 6,770-horsepower tugs. The 100-foot long and 40-foot wide boats will utilize high-efficiency catalytic after-treatment technology to reduce emissions.
The tugs will be powered by twin Z-drive propulsion units, and will have an approximate bollard pull of 90 short tons, making them suitable for offshore service, ship assist, escort, maneuvering and docking.
Both tugs will be Load Lined and Classed by the American Bureau of Shipping as +A1, Towing, Escort, +AMS, and FFV-1, Jensen Maritime said in a statement.
The two tugboats are expected to join McAllister’s fleet in 2017.
Jensen Maritime, a naval architecture and marine engineering company, is a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corp.
