Foss Maritime’s Alta June was fueled this morning in Richmond, CA. But, this was not an ordinary fueling. Foss is trialling Shell Trading (US) Companies biofuel (B20) in the Alta June. Next week, we will fuel the Keegan Foss with Shell’s biofuel.
“In our ongoing efforts to be responsible stewards of the environment in our operations, we constantly review safety, environmental and quality objectives. We have an opportunity to continue to transition harbor tugs to deliver cleaner air and greater fuel efficiency,” said Jeff Horst, VP Sales & Marketing. “In light of Earth Day and our obligation to present and future generations, we will continue to develop solutions to environmental problems within our industry. We are guided by the principles of sustainability and are working towards a goal of zero trace for our business,” added Horst.
The biofuel used in the Alta June and the Keegan Foss is lower in carbon intensity than conventional fuel, which reduces greenhouse gas and air emissions such as carbon dioxide and sulphur oxide.
