Disney and Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) have announced a new agreement to bring year-round Disney cruise vacations to Japan, set to commence by early 2029. OLC will build and operate a Disney-branded cruise business in Japan as part of this recently signed agreement.

The move marks the latest evolution in a partnership spanning over 40 years between Disney and OLC, which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort.

“Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences. “We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Co. to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan.”

In 2022, Disney Cruise Line christened the Disney Wish, its first new ship in a decade and the first in its fleet to run on lower-emissions dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Disney Wish joins the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy in the fleet.

The new Disney cruise ship will be registered and based in Japan year-round. Construction will take place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with designs by Walt Disney Imagineering. A sister ship to the Disney Wish, it will feature many popular venues and experiences with special modifications for Japanese guests. The ship is expected to be approximately 140,000 gross tons, powered by liquefied natural gas, with about 1,250 staterooms.

The Disney Cruise Line fleet currently sails to destinations including The Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, the South Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand, with year-round cruises from Singapore planned to begin in 2025.
