The Palau-flagged containership “ANGEL” sank overnight outside Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Port after its hull flooded, causing several empty containers to fall into the water.

The incident forced the authorities to close the port to all ship traffic.

All 19 crew members abandoned ship and were picked up safely. The port was reopened after officials deemed it safe again.

The shipowner is required to submit a salvage plan while authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
