ClassNK Chairman and President, Noboru Ueda, announced Monday the opening of threenew offices outside of Japan bringing the total number of overseas ClassNK survey offices to over 100.
The newly established offices, located in Doha, Qatar; Muscat, Oman; and Lianyungang, China, brings the total number of ClassNK survey offices to 121, with 20 in Japan and 101 abroad.
Today’s announcement comes on the heels of yet another significant milestone reached recently by the leading class society.
Late last week, ClassNK said that as of August its register had surpassed the 8000-ship milestone, with a total of 8036 ships representing 206,927,557 gross tons.
The Society’s register topped 6000 ships in 1989 and reached 7000 in 2008. With the total number of registered ships topping 8000 vessels this August, more than 1000 ships have been added to the ClassNK Register in just the past 4 years alone.
According to IHS Fairplay data, ClassNK is not only the leading classification society for bulk carriers with nearly three times as many bulk carriers on it register as the next IACS member society, but is also the leading class society in IACS for tankers and second for container carriers in terms of ship numbers.
With the opening of 3 new survey offices and the 8,000 ship milestone, ClassNK says it remains dedicated to the continual improvement and growth of its network that will hopefully translate into a better service to clients.
