New Jersey-based shipping firm American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier has been re-awarded the Global Household Goods Contract by the U.S. Transportation Command.

ARC is a subsidiary of Oslo, Norway-based Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

The Global Household Goods Contract is a multi-year contract to provide global relocation services for the Department of Defense and U.S. Coast Guard.

ARC was originally awarded the more than $7 billion contract in April, but the award was protested to Government Accountability Office after “an interested party” provided information that they believed should have been considered in the award decision.

“During a protest to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) related to ARC’s original GHC award, TRANSCOM received additional information that it determined should have been considered in its original contract decision. On June 9 TRANSCOM announced it would take corrective action to evaluate this new information and conduct a review of ARC’s award,” ARC explained in a press release. “After GAO dismissed the protest and TRANSCOM completed its review, TRANSCOM confirmed its original April 30 decision and re-awarded GHC to Team ARC.”

As the largest consumer of household goods services in the nation, U.S. Department of Defense has been actively trying to improve the moving experience for military families. Under the Global Household Goods Contract, a single commercial move manager is appointed to oversee activities that relate to the domestic and international movement and storage-in-transit of household goods.

The Global Household Goods Contract includes an initial nine-month transition period and the contract may run for over nine years if all options and awards are exercised by the Government. For its role, ARC will direct a network of hand-picked partners providing all personnel, equipment, facilities, tools, materials, supervision, and other items and services necessary to provide global household goods relocation services.

“Team ARC remains committed to our proposal to provide exceptional customer service to TRANSCOM and the Service Members,” ARC CEO Eric Ebeling said. “We look forward to getting started on GHC.”
