Here is a collection of photos sent in to us from the scene of the MV Amsterdam Bridge fire near Mumbai.  As gCaptain has reported, the 4,380 TEU containership caught fire on Sunday evening (approximately 5pm local time) shortly after departing the Indian port of Nhava Sheva enroute to Colombo, Sri Lanka with approximately 1,550 containers. All 20 crew members on board were evacuated without injury.

The 2009-built MV Amsterdam Bridge is flagged in Antigua & Barbuda and operated by THIEN & HEYENGA Bereederungs of Hamburg, Germany.

No official word yet on what caused the explosion/fire, however, as you’ll see from the photos, initial reports seem to point towards hazardous and flammable cargo.
