Today marks the 38th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, the Great Lakes freighter that sank in a strong gale on eastern Lake Superior resulting in the loss of all 29 of its crew. The 1975 sinking remains the Great Lakes regions most famous and mysterious maritime disaster.
