Each year the USCG lists the top 10, well 11, rescue videos of the year, symbolizing the Coast Guard’s 11 missions. It seems like the men and women were particularly busy in 2010 with the high profile and major response efforts with the Haiti Earthquake and, of course, the Gulf Oil Spill, but that’s not all. According to statistics provided on the website, in 2010 the USCG saved more than 4,300 lives, responded to more than 22,000 search and rescue cases, prevented more than 200,000 pounds of cocaine from reaching the U.S., boarded more than 2,100 High Interest Vessels bound for U.S. ports, interdicted nearly 4,700 undocumented migrants attempting to illegally enter the United States from the sea, and conducted more than 5,000 fisheries conservation boardings.
The USCG also wants our help in choosing the top 3 rescue videos.
Each day starting tomorrow, Dec. 21, the Compass will feature each video separately including commentary from a member of the Coast Guard unit involved in the mission. Just watch the videos as they are posted and then use any (or all!) of the following ways to vote for your favorites:
