CHUCKCHI SEA, Alaska – Chief Warrant Officer Jimmy Greenlee aboard the Kodiak-based 225-foot Coast Guard Cutter SPAR observes the 126-foot Seattle-based tug Sidney Foss as the tug crew taked the SPAR in tow using a state of Alaska owned emergency towing system three miles offshore of the Red Dog Mine Portsite 83 miles southwest of Kotzebue Aug. 9, 2011. The emergency towing system has been tested several times since it’s creation in 2007 and was used to tow the cargo vessel Golden Seas in the North Pacifc Ocean December 2010.
