China Navigation Company (CNCo), the deep-sea ship-owning and operating arm of Singapore-based Swire Group has confirmed today a newbuild order for four additional 39,000 dwt B.Delta37-design handysize bulk carriers. The order was signed late last week with China’s Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding Co.
This latest order brings the total number of Deltamarin-designed vessels ordered by China Navigation to twenty, including sixteen orders already placed at Chengxi Shipyard.
The ships will be powered by Wärtsilä RT-flex50, version B main engines and equipped with cranes to increase their cargo handling capabilities.

China Navigation and Ouhua are currently collaborating on several newbuilding projects including eight 31,000 dwt “S Class” multipurpose vessels scheduled for delivery in 2013 and 2014, as well as four, 22,000 dwt “Chief Class” multipurpose vessels.
Four of the “S Class” multipurpose vessels, such as the MV Shansi pictured above, have already been delivered by Ouhua to Swire Shipping, the liner shipping division of CNCo.
Tim Blackburn, China Navigation’s Managing Director commented, “CNCo is very pleased to be strengthening our partnership with Ouhua and we look forward to collaborating again on the B.Delta37 project.”
According to China Navigation, the “S Class” multipurpose vessels feature five double skin cargo holds and are designed to carry bulk cargoes, grain, coal, concentrates, logs, heavy general cargo, steel coils, steel slabs and a wide variety of heavy project cargoes. The tanktops are specifically strengthened for heavy cargoes and all holds have double skin hydraulic folding hatch covers and forced draft fans for cargo care. Four electric deck cranes are mounted on the centerline, each rated at 36 tons at maximum outreach of 26m.
