Courtesy of the Vallejo Gallery, this painting by Edward Moran captures a spectacular yacht racing scene in which the Schooner IDLER, winner of the Brenton’s Reef Challenge Cup on July 27, 1876, crosses the finish at New York’s Buoy #15 in front of the Schooner WANDERER.
Edward Moran was an English impressionist painter who emigrated to the United States in the mid-19th century. After studying at the Royal Academy in England and the Paris Academy, he quickly became one of the most recognized marine artists of that era.
