I had one where we sounded the danger signal for about 5 minutes stopping when the sailboat finally crossed our bow. He must have thought silence meant danger because he quickly tacked and tried crossing our bow again!

I was on a ship coming into Brunswick, GA when a not-so-bright sailor tried to cross our bow. An argument erupted on the bow with the Bosun over who was going to paint the scratches on the bow once we docked. All the while the horn sounded the danger signal and I stared down to watch what happened when steel meets fiberglass.

Amazingly, the sailboat just missed disaster sailing down the starboard side just feet from the vessel.
