Unfortunately The Healy has not sailed without controversy. In 2006, she lost two crew members in a diving accident which caused a major investigation to be launched resulting in the ship's CO and XO being held accountable. This tragic incident had a local twist as Lt. Jessica Hill one of the victims was from this area and her family was in the press pushing for answers. I feel badly for the officers involved because the incident occurred while they were allowing the crew some rec time out on the ice and evidently the crew members tending the diving exercise were somehow distracted. I'm sure the Masters on this forum are more than aware of having ultimate responsibility for anything befalling their vessel.

On a lighter note, I got a kick out of the fellow describing the function of his thruster coupled with Newton's 3rd law. Every ship that wants to sail must apply this principal in some manner or she will end up like the QE2.

Thanks as always for your fine site.
