Everyone knows the U.S. Navy has a killer marching band but did you know they also have a vocal ensemble nicknamed the Navy Sideboys? Neither did we until this video found its way into the gCaptain Inbox.  You’ll have to listen for yourself but if you grew up with a father who kept the station wagon’s radio glued to the local oldies station (as did mine!) I’m confident you’ll agree… these guys rock!

The Sideboys are part of the Navy Band Sea Chanters, the United States Navy’s official chorus. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including sea chanteys and patriotic fare, to opera, Broadway, and contemporary music.

P.S. If you’d prefer more tradition nautical music then go read the awesome book The Shantyman by gCaptain contributor Rick Spilman which was chosen as one of the Best Indie Books of 2105 by Kirkus Reviews.
