In a phone call with Mark Covell at Volvo Ocean Race control, Team Vestas Wind skipper Chris Nicholson says one of the worst nights he has ever experienced was followed by one of the best while shipwrecked on an island in the Indian Ocean.

His comments certainly come with a bit of perspective in that he and his crew are all safe after running hard aground on Cargados Carajos Shoals north of Mauritius.

He notes discussions are currently being had with salvors in Mauritius and he and his crew will work today to strip the boat of all electronics, running rigging and everything else that can be easily removed from the boat. Tuesday they will depart for the 20-hour voyage to Mauritius.

The final decision of what will happen to the boat once Nicholson and his crew depart the island has not yet been made.
