Maersk Containership Runs Aground Near Antwerp – Photos and Video

A Maersk containership ran aground in the Netherlands Tuesday morning as it approached the Antwerp area. Maersk Line spokesperson Michael Storgaard confirmed the grounding of the MV Sealand Meteor and the refloating of the vessel a few hours later at high tide and with the assistance of Svitzer tugs. There were no damages to the hull and no spills. Maersk Line announced today an order for seven new 3,600 TEU containerships from COSCO Shipyard in Zhoushan China as part of a 5 year, USD $15 billion newbuild and retrofit plan for their company's vast global fleet. Maersk Line's triple-E class containership Munkebo Maersk will call at the DP World London Gateway port on the morning of 26 February. With a capacity of 18,270 TEUs, she will be the largest vessel ever to sail up the Thames River.
