Dependeth the might of the chain.
Who knows when thou may’st be tested?
So live that thou bearest the strain!

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) learned the 5th Law of the Navy recently as new ROV video has revealed a distinct separation in a chain link used to support one of the five vertical production risers feeding the ultra-deepwaer FPSO BW Pioneer.  This assortment of bundled up pipes was around 8000 feet long and suspended vertically via a 130 ton flotation canister before the chain link gave out.

If anyone has the actual ROV footage of this chain link, or any of the specs on it, please feel free to email us at [email protected].
